Laser Hair Removal in Rawalpindi

Laser hair removal uses pulses of light absorbed by the pigment in the hair to disable the follicle that produces it. Done properly it means a permanent reduction in hair density, far less ingrown hair, and an end to the waxing and threading cycle. Done with the wrong settings on brown skin, it means burns and pigmentation.

That difference is why we treat laser as a medical procedure rather than a salon service. Every course at Ayra Aesthetics starts with an assessment of your skin type and hair type, includes a patch test before a full session, and is supervised by our dermatology team at our Satellite Town clinic, minutes from Islamabad.

How it works, and why one session is never enough

The laser targets melanin in the hair shaft. That energy converts to heat, travels down to the follicle, and damages the structures responsible for regrowth. Only hair that is currently in its active growing phase can be treated this way.

At any moment, roughly a fifth to a third of the hair in a given area is in that active phase. The rest is dormant and invisible to the laser. This is the entire reason a course is needed: each session catches a different portion of your hair as it cycles into growth, which is also why the four-to-six-week spacing is not an upsell but a biological requirement.

Most people need six to eight sessions for a substantial result, with some areas such as the face often needing more because hormonal influence keeps reactivating follicles.

Safety on brown and darker skin tones

This is the part that matters most in Pakistan and the part most often glossed over. The laser cannot perfectly distinguish pigment in hair from pigment in skin. In Fitzpatrick types IV and V, which describe most of our patients, aggressive settings risk burns, blistering, and long-lasting pigment changes.

Managing that risk is a matter of technique, not luck: appropriate wavelength selection for darker skin, longer pulse durations, conservative fluence, effective cooling, and a mandatory patch test before committing to a full area. Settings are then adjusted between sessions based on how your skin actually responded rather than pushed to a fixed protocol.

If a provider offers to laser a large area on your first visit with no patch test and no discussion of your skin type, that is the moment to leave.

Areas we treat

We treat both face and full body for women and men, including underarms, arms, legs, back, chest, and bikini areas, as well as smaller facial areas such as the upper lip and chin.

Facial hair on women frequently has a hormonal driver rather than a purely cosmetic one, and treating the surface without investigating the cause produces disappointing, short-lived results.

When hair growth is a medical sign

Coarse dark hair appearing on the chin, jawline, chest, or abdomen in women, particularly alongside irregular periods, acne, or difficulty losing weight, can point to polycystic ovary syndrome or another hormonal cause.

In those cases laser still works, but it works far better alongside medical management, and without it the hair tends to return faster. Our gynae and dermatology teams assess this together rather than simply selling more sessions.

Before your session

Shave the area 12 to 24 hours before your appointment. The laser needs the follicle intact below the surface and the hair short above it.

  • Do not wax, thread, pluck, or use hair removal cream for four weeks beforehand, as these remove the target the laser needs
  • Avoid direct sun and any tanning for two weeks before treatment
  • Come without makeup, deodorant, or lotion on the area being treated
  • Tell your clinician about any medication, especially anything that increases light sensitivity, and about recent isotretinoin use

Aftercare

Mild redness and small bumps around the follicles for a few hours to a day are normal and are a sign the follicles absorbed the energy. Cool compresses and a bland moisturiser are usually all that is needed.

For the first 48 hours avoid hot showers, saunas, steam, swimming pools, and heavy workouts. Then, daily broad-spectrum sunscreen on any treated area that sees daylight, for the whole course. Sun exposure between sessions is the single most common cause of pigmentation problems and it also forces us to use more conservative settings, which slows your results.

Between sessions you may shave, but do not wax, pluck, or thread. Removing the root restarts the problem.

What results are realistic

You should expect a permanent reduction in the amount and coarseness of hair, not permanently bare skin. After a full course most patients see a large majority of hair gone, with what remains growing back finer and lighter.

Maintenance sessions once or twice a year are normal, particularly on the face and particularly where hormones are involved. Any clinic promising permanent total removal in a fixed number of sessions is overpromising.

You will usually notice visible thinning after the first two or three sessions, with shed hairs pushing out over the one to three weeks following each treatment.

What affects the cost

Laser hair removal is priced per area and per course rather than as one figure. What determines what you pay:

  • Size and number of areas treated, and whether they are bundled into a package
  • Whether you book per session or commit to a full course, which is usually better value
  • Hair density and coarseness, which affect how many sessions you realistically need
  • Whether maintenance sessions after the initial course are included
  • Loyalty membership, which reduces the cost of repeat treatments

We quote per area in writing after assessing your skin and hair type at consultation, along with an honest estimate of how many sessions you are likely to need. Beware of quotes given before anyone has looked at your skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is laser hair removal safe for Pakistani skin tones?

Yes, when the wavelength, pulse duration, and energy are selected for darker skin and a patch test is done first. Fitzpatrick types IV and V need more conservative settings and effective cooling to avoid burns and pigmentation. This is why we treat it as a medical procedure under dermatologist supervision rather than a salon service.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people need six to eight sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, because only hair in its active growth phase responds and different hairs cycle into that phase at different times. Facial areas often need more sessions, especially where there is a hormonal driver.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Most patients describe a hot pinprick or a light elastic band snap with each pulse. Modern cooling makes it very manageable, and sessions on small areas take only a few minutes. Sensitive areas such as the upper lip and bikini line are the least comfortable.

Can I wax or thread between sessions?

No. Waxing, threading, plucking, and hair removal creams all remove the root, which is the exact target the laser needs. Shaving is fine and is in fact required before each session.

Is the hair removal permanent?

The correct term is permanent reduction. A full course removes a large majority of hair and what returns is usually finer and lighter, but most people need occasional maintenance sessions, especially on the face and where hormones are involved.

Can men have laser hair removal?

Yes. We treat men for back, chest, shoulders, and beard-line shaping among other areas, with the same assessment and patch test protocol.
