Dentures in Rawalpindi

Dentures replace missing teeth with a removable appliance - a full set where no natural teeth remain, or a partial that clips around the teeth you still have. They restore chewing, speech and the support that lips and cheeks lose when teeth are gone.

They are often presented as the old-fashioned option, which is unfair. For someone with several missing teeth, limited bone, or a budget that implants do not fit, a well-made denture is a genuinely good answer. The honest comparison is on this page, including where an implant or bridge would serve you better.

Full, partial and implant-supported

A full denture replaces an entire arch and is held by suction and the shape of the ridge. An upper full denture usually holds well; a lower one has far less surface to grip and is the harder of the two to live with, which is worth knowing before you start rather than after.

A partial denture fills the gaps and uses the remaining teeth for support. It is more stable than a full denture by definition, and it also preserves what you still have by stopping neighbouring teeth drifting into the space.

An implant-supported denture clips onto two or more implants. It is the answer to the loose lower denture problem specifically, and it changes what a patient can eat more than any other single intervention in this area.

Dentures, bridges and implants compared honestly

An implant is the closest thing to a natural tooth - fixed, independent of the neighbours, and it preserves the bone around it. It is also the most expensive and needs enough bone to place.

A bridge is fixed and quicker, but it is anchored to the teeth either side, which have to be prepared down to carry it. If those teeth are healthy and untouched, that is a real cost.

A denture is removable, needs no surgery and no preparation of other teeth, and is the most affordable. The trade-offs are stability, the adaptation period, and the fact that the bone underneath continues to shrink, which is why dentures need relining over time. Which of these is right depends on your mouth and your budget, and a consultation should end with you understanding all three, not being steered to one.

What the process involves

Dentures are built in stages rather than made in one visit. Impressions are taken, the bite is recorded, and a try-in in wax lets you see and approve the shape, size and shade before anything is finalised. That try-in appointment is the one to take seriously - changes are easy then and difficult afterwards.

If teeth need extracting first, the gum needs time to heal and reshape before a definitive denture fits properly. An immediate denture can be fitted on the day of extraction so you are not without teeth, with the understanding that it will need relining as the ridge settles over the following months.

Living with them

The first weeks are an adjustment. New dentures feel bulky, increase saliva, and make certain sounds awkward - reading aloud for ten minutes a day genuinely speeds up the speech side. Start with soft food cut small, chew on both sides at once rather than one, and build up.

Sore spots in the first days are normal and are fixed with a small adjustment, not with endurance. People who stop wearing a denture because it rubs almost never return to it. Come back and let us adjust it - that is part of the process, not a sign of a bad fit.

  • Clean them over a basin of water so a drop does not break them
  • Brush with soap or denture cleaner, not toothpaste - it is abrasive
  • Leave them out overnight so the gums rest
  • Keep them in water when out, never in hot water
  • Keep attending check-ups even with no natural teeth - the gums and ridge still need reviewing

What affects the cost

Denture cost varies with the type and the work around it:

  • Full or partial, and one arch or both
  • The materials used for the base and the teeth
  • Whether extractions or other preparation are needed first
  • Whether it is implant-supported, which adds the implant cost
  • Relines and adjustments as the ridge settles
  • Loyalty membership, which applies across the treatment

The plan is quoted in full after assessment, including the adjustments that follow, because a denture quoted without them is an incomplete figure. If an implant-supported option would serve you better, you will be told the difference in cost and in outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do dentures take to get used to?

Most people are speaking comfortably within two to three weeks and eating confidently within a couple of months. A lower full denture takes longer than an upper. Sore spots in the first days are expected and are adjusted in a short appointment rather than endured.

Are implants better than dentures?

For stability and bone preservation, yes, and they are also considerably more expensive and require enough bone. For many patients the best answer is a combination - two implants to anchor a lower denture solves the specific problem of a lower denture that will not stay put.

Will anyone be able to tell?

A well-made denture is designed around your face, not a standard mould, and the try-in appointment exists so you approve the shade, shape and arrangement before it is finished. Teeth that are too white and too even are what make a denture obvious - we would rather make them look like yours.

Can I eat normally?

Most things, with practice. Start soft, cut food small, and chew on both sides at once rather than the front. Very hard and very sticky foods stay difficult with a conventional full denture - that is the honest limit, and it is the main thing implant support changes.

Do dentures need replacing?

They need relining periodically, because the bone underneath continues to shrink once teeth are gone and the fit loosens. Eventually a remake is better than another reline. A denture that has become loose is not just uncomfortable - it accelerates the shrinkage underneath it.
