Children's Dentistry
Kids Dentist in Rawalpindi
Children do not arrive afraid of the dentist. They learn it, usually from a first visit that happened because something already hurt. The single best thing a parent can do is bring a child in before anything is wrong, so the first appointment is a chair, a mirror and a conversation.
We see children for check-ups, fluoride, fillings, extractions and the dental side of growth and development. The approach is slow and unhurried, and nothing is done to a child who has not been shown what is about to happen.

Why baby teeth matter
The most common thing we hear is that it is only a baby tooth and it will fall out anyway. Baby teeth hold the space for the adult teeth forming above them. A back baby tooth lost early lets the teeth behind drift forward and close the gap, and the adult tooth then has nowhere to come through - which is how a child ends up in braces that could have been avoided.
They also matter now. Decay in a baby tooth causes the same pain, the same infection and the same sleepless nights as in an adult tooth, and infection at the root of a baby tooth can damage the developing permanent tooth directly above it.
Making the first visit a good one
Book it when nothing hurts. The first appointment is deliberately uneventful - sitting in the chair, counting teeth, a ride up and down, a sticker. Nothing is forced, and if a child is not ready today we stop and try again rather than hold them down and win the appointment but lose the next ten years.
What parents say beforehand matters more than they expect. Avoid the words that carry fear even in reassurance - telling a child it will not hurt plants the idea that it might. Say the dentist is going to count your teeth. Let them come along to your own appointment first if they are nervous.
Preventing decay, practically
Most childhood decay comes down to frequency rather than quantity. It is not how much sugar but how often - a sweet drink sipped across an afternoon keeps the mouth acidic for hours, while the same drink finished at a meal does far less damage.
- Brush twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste suited to their age
- Parents should brush or finish brushing for a child until about seven
- Water or milk between meals, and keep juice and fizzy drinks with meals
- Never put a child to bed with a bottle of anything but water
- Fluoride varnish at check-ups, and fissure sealants on new adult molars
- Check-ups every six months, not only when something hurts
Nervous children and children who have had a bad experience
A child who has already been frightened at a dentist needs more visits, not fewer, and the early ones should involve no treatment at all. Rebuilding that takes a few short, uneventful appointments where nothing bad happens, and it is worth the time.
Tell us in advance if your child is anxious or has had a difficult experience, and we will plan the visit around it. Booking a longer, quieter slot costs nothing and changes the appointment completely.
What affects the cost
Children's treatment is priced like any other, by what is needed:
- A check-up and fluoride visit versus actual treatment
- How many teeth are involved
- Whether fissure sealants are placed on new adult molars
- Whether a baby tooth needs filling, a pulp treatment, or extraction
- Whether a space maintainer is needed after an early extraction
- Family loyalty membership, which covers siblings
You are told what each child needs and what it costs before treatment, and if a tooth can be watched rather than treated we will say so. Prevention appointments are deliberately the cheapest thing we do, because they are what stops the expensive ones.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should my child first see a dentist?
By their first birthday, or when the first teeth come through. That early visit is not about treatment - it is about the child learning that the dental chair is an ordinary place, and about catching habits and early decay while they are easy to change.
My child has a cavity in a baby tooth. Does it need treating?
Usually yes. Baby teeth hold space for the adult teeth and decay in them causes the same pain and infection as in an adult tooth. The decision depends on how close that tooth is to falling out naturally, which an X-ray and an examination answer.
How do I prepare an anxious child?
Keep the language neutral and positive - the dentist counts teeth. Avoid words like pain, needle and hurt even in reassurance. Bring them along to your own appointment first, book a time when they are rested rather than at the end of a long day, and tell us in advance so we allow extra time.
Are dental X-rays safe for children?
Modern dental X-rays use a very low dose and are taken only when there is a clinical reason - decay between teeth that cannot be seen directly, or assessing a developing tooth. We will explain why one is needed before taking it rather than as routine.
When should I worry about crooked teeth?
Most children do not need orthodontic treatment before the adult teeth are through, but some problems are much easier to correct early - a crossbite, severe crowding, or a baby tooth lost early. Six-monthly check-ups are how that gets spotted at the right moment rather than years late.
